We will be doing some maintenance work on the native hedgerow planting at Sackett Ranch which was planted earlier this spring by OneCreek interns. The work will include mulching, removing a couple of dead saplings, and potentially planting some additional native plants. Hedgerows function to provide habitat for birds, beneficial insects, and other wildlife, improve soil stability, and reduce wind damage to crops. Mulching is an important restoration technique where a layer of chipped wood and other organic materials are spread over soil. Mulch reduces soil water losses, suppresses weeds, and protects against temperature extremes.
